I am getting close to a hundred people a day on this blog just looking for Christmas Eve Service Ideas. So, if this is you – you’re late! Seriously, though, here is what we are doing. If any of it helps great. Just so you know: we are meeting outdoors in a local park at 6:00 on Christmas Eve. Although the songs we are singing in our set list are old carols, we are a contemporary church and we are going to rock them out.

As people come in we will give them a candle or glow stick for the kids.

We will begin by having a station that serves: hot chocolate, apple cider, coffee, hot tea and cookies. Even if you are meeting inside, break the rules and give your people some hot drinks– its Christmas Eve for goodness sake and this helps people get in the spirit.

We expect to have first time guests at our service so we are starting off with a slideshow that shows service and activities at our regular meeting location. We are also going to shoot our logo up on screen before and after the service. We are working hard to get brand recognition in our community. This will give people a glimpse at what we do on a normal Sunday and we anticipate that some of them to give us a try.

We will break into our song set:

  • come, all ye faithful
  • God rest ye merry gentlemen
  • Little Drummer Boy
  • Angels we have heard on high
  • Do you hear what I hear

After the set we will have a contemporary Christmas skit.

I will give like a 5 minute message (remember, it’s cold).

I will talk about the Christ Candle that we will have lit on stage and talk about how everyone is to get their candle lit. We will sing a haunting rendition of silent night and have our helpers light the worshipper’s candles.

We will be dismissed with a simple Christmas Blessing. (End Service)

It is my hope that all of you have wonderful Christmas Eve services that touch the hearts of those who come to hear the Christmas story.
